Overview

USAP-WA is seeking an accomplished, collaborative physician leader to serve as Chief of Obstetric Anesthesiology at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Job Highlights

USAP Washington is the largest majority physician owned private practice anesthesia group in the Northwest. We provide high quality anesthesia services to the renowned Swedish Medical Center, as well as prominent outpatient surgery centers in the greater Seattle area.

Our practice is highly varied, with regional, thoracic, neuro, vascular, general, peds and OB featured prominently. We have a physician leader for each of our major service lines and we are seeking a leader for our busy obstetric anesthesia service.

This is a premier opportunity to lead anesthesia services within the largest labor and delivery unit in the Pacific Northwest and among the largest on the West Coast, with approximately 8,000 deliveries annually.

Swedish is a quaternary referral center offering the full spectrum of maternal care, supported by:

    •    A robust Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) department on site

    •    A high-volume Placenta Accreta Spectrum service

    •    An established OB/Gyn residency program

    •    Rotating anesthesia residents from the University of Washington and Virginia Mason Medical Center

The Chief of Obstetric Anesthesiology provides strategic, clinical, and administrative leadership for obstetric anesthesia services across a high-acuity, high-throughput practice. This role partners closely with obstetric and hospital leadership to advance safety, quality, and operational excellence while supporting education and team development. The OB anesthesia chief promotes best practices for high-risk obstetrics, including complex placental pathologies. The Chief of OB anesthesia supports an educational culture of clinical excellence, safety, and mentorship within the L&D environment.

Quality, Safety, and Governance

    •    Participate in and help lead institutional quality initiatives, including:

    •    OBQI Committee

    •    Perinatal Quality Committee

    •    Surgical Quality Council

    •    Contribute to development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards

    •    Engage in QVR and RCA processes to drive continuous improvement

    •    Maintain a close partnership with the OB Director of Quality & Safety

    •    Provide operational and administrative oversight for obstetric anesthesia

    •    Collaborate with OB leadership and hospital administrators on service line goals, staffing, and performance

Why USAP-WA

This is a rare opportunity to lead within one of the region’s most dynamic obstetric environments—combining high-volume clinical excellence with meaningful influence on quality, safety, and system-level improvement while maintaining experience with the full breadth of anesthesia practice.

Qualifications

    •    MD/DO (or equivalent) with board certification/board eligibility in Anesthesiology

    •    Completion of an Obstetric Anesthesiology fellowship

    •    Demonstrated leadership ability in clinical operations, quality, or program development

    •    Strong communication skills and a collaborative, multidisciplinary leadership style

    •    Commitment to education and working with trainees in a teaching environment
